...and what it is all about...

There are 7000 languages in the world, however, Music is the only language which transcends the limitations of the spoken word by reaching out to touch the heart and soul.

Contrasts unite to create meaning in a musical composition and this stimulates the ear.

Instruments of varied acoustic colour combine to form a harmonious whole, culminating in chords with overtones, in orchestration, in symphony.

There are no compositions without contrasts, no captivating sound without a diverse range of partial tones, no language barriers beyond words. This is how music can build bridges between different peoples and cultures.

The project “Music for Peace and Mutual Understanding” is an international private initiative, which was formed in April 2017 as a registered non-profit organization. It emerged from a series of Johann Sebastian Bach B Minor Mass concerts beginning in 1996 at the Concentration Camp Memorial in Dachau, 1999 in Ottobeuren, 2006 in Paris, 2010 in Frankfurt and between the years 2016/2017 in Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Nazareth.

A choir consisting of 120 singers and a 30 piece orchestra has united people from the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, England, USA, Israel and Colombia.

At its very centre like an invisible magnet there shines Music in all its universal beauty. Music embodies an inner spirit and it is this inner spirit which has been the foundation for the “Concerts for Peace and Mutual Understanding”. Inter-religious performances punctuated with prayers and contributions from various religious denominations complement and promote the central Christian message conveyed by Johann Sebastian Bach’s B minor mass.

Music transcends speech and prayer eliminates religious boundaries.

You can support us by either becoming a member of "Music for Peace and Mutual Understanding e.V" or you can actively join the orchestra or choir.

Or you can simply take part by listening and letting yourself be carried away by the beauty of the music with its inherent vision of hope.
